When I was a kid I would search the shelves at the store eagerly looking for a pirate board game where there was a vast open sea full of bright tropical islands to visit, scores of treasure to plunder, and a ocean of fun characters. None of the games I ever saw marked off all the things I was looking for in a great pirate board game so I started out to just make my own.
You win Plank by collecting the most treasure, but in order to do that you will need to assemble a winning crew. You build your crew by visiting sand bars to rescue castaways, adding each new crewmember in a row that extends to the right of your captain. There are four different types of crewmembers in Plank each with their own theme and abilities. Your crew size is limited to four so you will need to be constantly evaluating your needs based on your current strategy. If you crew isn't working out for you then make the crewmember closest to your captain walk the plank and slide the remaining crew down.
The goal of Plank is to score the most points. You collect points by claiming treasures, selling fish, picking up supplies, and plundering your opponents. Treasures offer the single greatest point value but in order to claim one you will need to treasure keys that correspond to that treasures type. You will also need to know where that treasure is buried and then sail to that island to claim it before someone plunders the keys from you!
Plank has it all! On your turn you can expect to sail the vast seas and plunder your friends as you collect the treasure keys and avoid the black spot! Build the best crew and collect the most treasure to win the game!
